Sloth Territory Arenal Tour

We’ll start the tour off by picking you up at your hotel and driving you to the starting point, the Sloth Territory. Upon arrival you can use the facilities before your guided walk.
We will begin the tour by explaining some factual information about the flora and fauna of El Tanque of La Fortuna. During the hike the trails allow you to enjoy a gallery forest with lush vegetation and giant trees such as Chilamate and the Guacimo Colorado.

This forest accommodates many species like opossums, and many birds such as toucans, tanagers, Royal Flycatchers and others. The main attraction however is the Sloth observation in their natural habitat. You will walk for about 1.2 kilometers through the beautiful rainforest looking for our lazy friend; The sloth.

You’ll be searching out both 2-toed and 3-toed sloths. Although similar, they have distinct differences. The 2-toed Sloth, being nocturnal, can be found sleeping high up in the treetops. More active during daytime hours, the 3-toed Sloth slowly moves through the branches happily eating leaves, often with a young sloth hugging on for the ride.

Affixed with permanent smiles, sloths easily steal the hearts of those that watch them. Did you know they are related to the anteaters? Additionally, you’ll also get great views of a variety of birds, brightly-colored toucans, elusive iguanas, and more. Families and elderly folks love this sloth tour in La Fortuna.
